    Our Story So Far

    1962

    Graham and Maude Tiso start trading from the back room of a boat shop in Edinburgh before moving nearby to their own premises on Rodney Street.

    1972

    The Rodney Street store relocates to Welllington Place, Leith (pictured). Graham Tiso works with key brands Chouinard, Salewa, Berghaus, Helly Hansen, Stubai and Raichle on equipment innovation, developing products including climbing tools, rucksacks, tents, clothing and boots.

    1984

    Tiso opens on Buchanan Street, Glasgow. Today this is one of the top retail destinations in the UK.

    1992

    Graham Tiso dies in a tragic accident. Company takes on Limited company status with Chris Tiso as CEO and Maude Tiso as Chairman. All three brothers, Donald, Rory and Chris are by now working in the business together.

    1998

    Our first Outdoor Experience store, the first of its kind in the UK, is opened in Leith by Maude Tiso and Alan Hinkes. The store features a waterproof testing cabinet, a boot test path, a stove test area and water purification well. This store along with office and warehouse are all located in one building.

    2000

    A second Outdoor Experience store is opened in Glasgow by Maude Tiso and Polly Murray. Polly has just returned from Everest being the first Scottish woman to summit. When Glasgow Outdoor Experience opens, it is the largest specialist outdoor retail store in Europe and sets a new standard for outdoor retailing in the UK.

    2005

    Tiso.com goes live.

    2006

    Tiso acquires Alpine Bikes, and have since opened another 5 bike stores, which include sales and hire facilities at the Glentress downhill and trail centre.

    2007

    Tiso acquires the iconic George Fisher business in Keswick. Inverness Outdoor Experience opens featuring an Alpine Bikes, indoor climbing wall and café.

    2010

    Tiso Perth Outdoor Experience opens signifying the next stage of the Outdoor Experience concept. The store which features Alpine Bikes, Blues the Ski Shop, a climbing wall, a soft play centre and a 100 seat café quickly establishes flagship status.

    2011

    Tiso acquires Blues the Ski Shop from founder, Graham Spinks. The companies have been working together as partners for over 25 years.

    2012

    Tiso celebrates its 50th Anniversary with the “Spirit of Adventure” Lecture series featuring Polly Murray, Guy Grieve and Mark Beaumont.

    2014

    JD Sports invests in Tiso Group.

    2018

    Tiso opens in Aviemore, signifying the latest iteration of the Outdoor Experience store concept. Situated within sight of the iconic Cairngorm mountain range, a long held ambition to have a flagship store in Scotland’s adventure capital is finally realised.
